Modi and Putin Set for Bilateral Talks on BRICS Summit Sidelines

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to visit New Delhi this week to participate in the 18th BRICS Summit, where he will also hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Kremlin's spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed the visit on Tuesday, stating that the meeting between the two leaders is planned for Friday.

According to Peskov, the discussions will cover a broad range of topics, including bilateral trade and economic cooperation, international issues, and major transportation projects. He indicated that the leaders are expected to exchange views on the current situation in the Ukraine conflict and the global economic impact of instability in the Persian Gulf.

Peskov described the relationship between President Putin and PM Modi as close and pragmatic, noting that they engage in open and constructive dialogue on sensitive global matters. He also welcomed the interest of Indian companies in expanding their investments within the Russian economy.

India, as the current chair of BRICS, will host the summit in New Delhi on September 12-13. The event will bring together leaders from member and partner countries to discuss strengthening intra-BRICS cooperation and share perspectives on regional and global issues. This upcoming meeting follows the recent interaction between the two leaders on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek last month.
