PM Modi to Address SRCC Centenary Celebrations at Delhi University
PM Modi will attend SRCC's centenary celebrations in Delhi, his first visit to the college since 2013 when he was Gujarat CM.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) at Delhi University on Saturday to take part in the institution's centenary celebrations and address the gathering. This marks his first visit to the college in nearly 13 years.
Modi last visited SRCC in 2013, during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, a year before he assumed the office of Prime Minister. The visit is part of the centenary events, which coincide with Teachers' Day, adding significance to the occasion as the nation acknowledges the role of educators.
During his 2013 address at the college, Modi had famously used a glass of water to illustrate his approach to problem-solving. He noted that optimists would see the glass as half-full while pessimists would call it half-empty. He offered a third perspective, stating that the glass was full — half with water and half with air — reflecting his inclination to think differently.
The upcoming visit comes at a time when the BJP has been focusing on youth outreach, following protests over exam paper leaks. Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Goa are also scheduled for next year.
Earlier this year, in April, Modi had met with the college's Governing Body and a delegation at his residence to mark the centenary year. He also released a commemorative postage stamp on the occasion.
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi has also been invited to the celebrations by SRCC Principal Prof. Simrit Kaur. In a social media post, Joshi mentioned a cordial interaction regarding the institution's journey and its contributions to education.
Vijay Goel, a senior BJP leader and SRCC alumnus, expressed pride in the Prime Minister's visit. He noted that multiple generations of his family, including his father, brother, daughter, and son, have studied at the college. Goel recalled his own days at SRCC, mentioning his involvement in student politics, sports like basketball and kho-kho, and time spent in the canteen.
