PM Modi calls for AI-driven water data governance at Jal Shakti summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for a comprehensive overhaul of water data management, emphasizing the need for robust governance and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in data collection and analysis. Chairing the valedictory session of the two-day National Departmental Summit on Water, organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Modi outlined a vision for anticipatory and integrated planning to tackle water scarcity.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Modi stressed that water-sector data should be brought together, systematically managed, analyzed, and effectively utilized. He recommended adopting a uniform format for data collection and using AI to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

The Prime Minister also advocated for greater adoption of water-saving technologies. He suggested organizing dedicated exhibitions and workshops, including exposure to global best practices, to help Indian manufacturers and stakeholders develop and scale efficient solutions. These measures, he said, would support the sustainable use of treated water for agriculture and industrial purposes, addressing the growing challenge of water scarcity.
