PM launches ₹35,000 crore projects, flags off freight services on Western Corridor
PM Modi inaugurated and laid foundation for ₹35,000 crore projects in Vadodara, including key Western DFC sections linking JNPT.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹35,000 crore in Vadodara, Gujarat. Addressing the gathering, he said, "From chips to ships, India is now building a new manufacturing future."
The centrepiece of the event was the inauguration of three crucial sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), spanning 326 route kilometres at a cost exceeding ₹20,700 crore. These sections—Sanand (N)-Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale, and New Saphale-JNPT—provide direct connectivity to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA).
Officials said this direct link will accelerate the movement of EXIM cargo, strengthen industrial-port connectivity, reduce logistics costs, and ease congestion on Mumbai's railway network. With these sections now operational, the entire Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network is fully commissioned across its full length.
Modi also flagged off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon, and New JNPT in Mumbai. Later, he is scheduled to inaugurate the seventh edition of the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai, which runs from September 8 to 11.
