
Education Ministry Opens Director Applications for IIT Delhi, Indore and Mandi
The Ministry of Education is recruiting Directors for IIT Delhi, IIT Indore and IIT Mandi, with applications due by October 31, 2026.
The Ministry of Education has begun the search for new heads of three Indian Institutes of Technology, inviting applications for the Director's post at IIT Delhi, IIT Indore and IIT Mandi. Separate advertisements for each institute have been posted on the ministry's website.
As the academic and administrative head of an IIT, the Director holds a pivotal role at an Institution of National Importance. Interested candidates have until October 31, 2026 to submit their applications in the prescribed format.
Who can apply
Applicants must hold a PhD and demonstrate an outstanding academic record across their earlier degrees. A background in engineering is preferred, though the ministry may consider exceptional candidates from science, mathematics or management.
A minimum of ten years' experience as a professor at a recognised engineering or technology institute or university is required, alongside a proven record of supervising PhD students. Candidates must also bring at least five years of administrative experience and the leadership credentials needed to run an institute of this scale. The upper age limit is 60 years as of the application deadline.
What the application must contain
Along with a detailed resume in the prescribed format, candidates are expected to outline their research, teaching, industry-academia collaborations and administrative work. The submission must also include a two-page justification of their candidature, a two-page vision statement for the institution, and contact details for at least two distinguished referees.
The position offers a monthly salary of Rs 2,25,000, plus allowances in line with government norms.
