A Congress-affiliated student leader's test application for a donkey has prompted the Madhya Pradesh nursing council to pause registrations.
The Madhya Pradesh nursing council has halted its registration process after a test application filed in the name of a donkey appeared to clear the online portal, raising questions about how applicant identities and mandatory documents are verified before certificates are issued.
The application was submitted by Ravi Parmar, the state vice-president of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), who said he wanted to check whether the council's online system carried out any verification of an applicant's identity or the documents required for registration.
According to Parmar, the portal processed the application without the checks that would normally be expected, and a registration certificate was issued for the animal. The episode drew attention to the safeguards — or the lack of them — built into the council's digital workflow.
In response, the council has put its registration process on hold. The pause affects applicants seeking registration through the same online route.
The incident has renewed scrutiny of the state's online certification systems, particularly whether identity and document verification are automated or left to manual review at a later stage. No timeline has been announced for when registrations will resume.
