Mumbai Police Seize 12.39 kg Ketamine Worth Rs 37 Crore, Two Held in Andheri East
Two Mumbai residents were arrested in Andheri East with 12.39 kg of ketamine valued at Rs 37.17 crore, police said.
Two men have been arrested in Mumbai's Andheri East area after police seized 12.39 kilograms of ketamine valued at Rs 37.17 crore from their possession, an official said on Monday.
The accused have been identified as Adnan Ahmed Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, 35, a resident of Mazagon, and Saud Mushtaq Maniar, 29, who lives in Girgaon. According to the MIDC police station official, both are suspected members of an international cartel that moves illicit narcotics out of Mumbai to destinations such as Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia.
The syndicate's method, the official said, involves concealing contraband inside packaged food items that are then dispatched through air transport.
An Anti-Narcotics Squad team spotted the two men last week on the footpath of Andheri-Kurla Road near the Airport metro station, carrying luggage bags. When the police approached, the pair attempted to flee but were caught shortly afterwards. A search led to the recovery of white crystalline ketamine.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigators are working to trace the wider peddling network linked to the seizure.
