Mumbai Man Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Pregnant Girlfriend Over Suspicions

A 25-year-old Mumbai man was arrested for allegedly poisoning his 19-year-old pregnant girlfriend after suspecting her of infidelity.

A 25-year-old man in Mumbai has been arrested on charges of murder after allegedly poisoning his 19-year-old girlfriend, who was pregnant. The incident occurred in the Chembur area, where the couple lived together with the woman's aunt.

The accused, identified as Ashish Magar, reportedly grew suspicious of the victim, Vishnumaya, after seeing her with another male friend on August 25. This led to a heated argument between the couple. The situation appeared to calm down, but police allege that Magar then mixed poisonous tablets into a cold drink and offered it to Vishnumaya.

Shortly after consuming the drink, Vishnumaya began vomiting and her condition deteriorated rapidly. Family members initially believed it was a temporary health issue, but she soon collapsed. She was rushed to a private hospital and then transferred to another facility, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Initially, police registered an accidental death report as nothing appeared suspicious. However, the post-mortem examination revealed that Vishnumaya had died from poisoning, prompting a deeper investigation. During questioning, investigators learned that Vishnumaya had told relatives before losing consciousness that she felt unwell after drinking the beverage given to her by Magar.

Police claim Magar initially tried to mislead investigators but was arrested after evidence pointed to his involvement. He has been remanded to five days of police custody. Further investigation is underway.
