Joshi flags trust deficit in politics, says country finds its way back

Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party leader Murli Manohar Joshi has said that while the country may have lost its way at times, it has always found its path back. He made the remark in a wide-ranging interview covering what he described as a growing trust deficit in Indian politics and other pressing national issues.
Joshi also addressed the handling of the youth protest at Jantar Mantar, indicating his dissatisfaction with the way the demonstration was dealt with.
On the Ayodhya Ram Temple, the senior leader placed responsibility for the functioning of the temple trust on the government. He stressed that the trust's affairs are a matter for the administration to answer for.
Turning to electoral matters, Joshi underlined the need for fair elections and for public trust in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. His comments come amid continuing debate over the exercise and its implications for voter rolls.
The remarks span several of the most contested issues in current Indian politics, from the management of a landmark religious site to the conduct of electoral revisions and the treatment of young protesters.
