Musk's America PAC Deploys $800,000 in Key US Midterm Races

Elon Musk's political action committee, America PAC, has begun deploying its substantial war chest, spending more than $800,000 in recent days to support Republican candidates in competitive midterm races. The expenditure, detailed in a late-Wednesday filing with the Federal Election Commission, marks the PAC's first major outlay for the 2026 election cycle and focuses on printing materials such as direct mail and canvassing literature.

The largest single outlay is in Texas, where the PAC has directed $247,595 since August 20 to bolster Attorney General Ken Paxton's Senate campaign against Democrat James Talarico. The race is notable as Texas is home to SpaceX's headquarters and several of its facilities. In Maine, Senator Susan Collins, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, received $170,224 in support for her closely watched contest against Democrat Troy Jackson.

Ohio's Senate race also drew significant attention, with $105,675 spent on printed materials to aid Republican Senator Jon Husted, who faces a tough challenge from former Senator Sherrod Brown. Both Collins and Husted sit on the Appropriations Committee, which oversees funding for major government contracts, including those held by Musk's companies.

The PAC also reported spending to boost Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, which has oversight of Pentagon projects involving Musk's ventures. In House races, the committee has supported several Republican incumbents, including Scott Perry and Ryan Mackenzie of Pennsylvania, Tom Kean of New Jersey, Jennifer Kiggans of Virginia, Mike Lawler of New York, and Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin.

The spending has drawn criticism from Democrats, including Chris Pappas, a New Hampshire Senate candidate who has been a vocal critic of Musk's role in government efficiency efforts. The PAC has spent over $90,000 on materials opposing Pappas. His campaign manager accused Musk of trying to buy the seat for Republican John Sununu, who would be a "rubber stamp" for the former president's agenda.

America PAC, which reportedly holds a $50 million war chest, is expected to play a major role in Republican voter turnout efforts this fall. Reports suggest the group's total spending could reach $120 million. A spokesperson for the PAC declined to comment on the latest filings.
