Officials inspect Jamboo Savari route in Mysuru as Dasara crowd safety plans take shape
Senior Mysuru officials inspected the Jamboo Savari route and discussed crowd management and spectator safety ahead of Dasara.
Ahead of the Mysuru Dasara celebrations, senior officials walked a key stretch of the Jamboo Savari procession route on Tuesday to review crowd management and spectator safety arrangements.
Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, MCC Commissioner M.K. Savita, Deputy Commissioners of Police Harsha Priyamvada and Sundar Raj, and other officials inspected Sayyaji Rao Road, which draws large crowds during the procession.
The review focused on steps to stop people from climbing trees and buildings along the route for a better view. The concern is sharpened by the presence of several heritage structures, including the century-old Devaraja Market, close to the procession path.
Police and civic authorities are working on measures to keep spectators off these structures, aiming both to protect the buildings and to prevent accidents during the heavy rush.
Crowd management is expected to be a stiff test. Even the routine rehearsals featuring the Dasara elephants draw sizeable gatherings eager to see the animals, and officials expect a much larger turnout on Jamboo Savari day.
The roughly five-kilometre route runs from the Mysuru Palace to Bannimantap and is expected to be lined with spectators turning out to watch the caparisoned elephants, the golden ambari, cultural and folk troupes, tableaux and other highlights of the procession.
