Mysuru Palace Dasara 2026: Golden Throne on Oct 5, Khas Durbar on Oct 11
The golden throne will be installed at Mysuru Palace on October 5, with the Khas Durbar to follow on October 11, as the Wadiyar family announces its Dasara ritual calendar.
The erstwhile Mysuru royal family has set out the calendar of palace rituals for this year's Dasara, with the installation of the imperial golden throne at the Mysuru Palace scheduled for October 5 and the Khas Durbar, or private durbar, to be held on October 11.
Announcing the schedule, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar said the throne would be assembled in the palace durbar hall between 10 a.m. and 10.20 a.m. after the customary rituals. The installation is an important ceremony and is carried out under her guidance.
The Khas Durbar, which marks the start of the Navarathri festivities, will begin at 11.45 a.m. on October 11, following pujas that are to commence around 6 a.m. The private durbar is a tradition dating back to the era of the Mysuru Wadiyars and is now largely representative in character, held only during Dasara and open to a select audience. It evokes the ceremonial practices of the erstwhile royal household while retaining its place in the palace's annual Dasara observances. On the remaining days of the festivities, the Khas Durbar will be held in the evening as part of the traditional rituals.
Saraswathi Puja will be celebrated on October 16 at around 10.20 a.m., and Ayudha Puja at the Kalyana Mantapa inside the palace is set for October 20 at 11.35 a.m.
The royal family's Vijayadashami celebrations, which conclude the Navarathri rituals, will be held on October 21 from 8.15 a.m. Vajra Musti Kalaga, one of the highlights of the celebrations, will take place in the palace courtyard, followed by other traditional rituals and a procession within the palace premises.
The Mysuru Wadiyars have observed Navarathri rituals for centuries, and the palace celebrations remain an important part of the Dasara tradition.
