A 33-year-old rowdy-sheeter was chased and stabbed to death at a wine shop's permit room in Nagole on Monday night, with police suspecting the involvement of his childhood friend in the killing.
The deceased has been identified as Mohd Nayeem, a driver by profession. He was drinking at the permit room around 9.20 p.m. when his friend Mahesh and a group of men attacked him. Nayeem sustained stab injuries and died on the spot.
A CCTV clip that purportedly shows the murder has since been circulating on social media.
According to the police, Nayeem and Mahesh had been friends since childhood but fell out some time ago. The two had frequently clashed since then, both on social media and in person.
Investigators suspect a money dispute to be the motive. Nayeem reportedly owed Mahesh money and had been avoiding him for about six months. Mahesh, a resident of Nagole, came to know that Nayeem was at the permit room and went there, following which the attack took place.
Mahesh is absconding and no arrests have been made so far.
Police are examining Nayeem's previous criminal cases and the circumstances that led to the attack. Further details are awaited.
