Man Robs Nagpur SBI Branch With Chilli Powder, Arrested Within Hours

A 28-year-old man was arrested within hours of robbing a State Bank of India branch in Nagpur's Sakkardara area, after he threw chilli powder at employees and fled with Rs 4.53 lakh in cash, police said.

The accused, identified as Suraj Borker, entered the branch on Friday evening with his face covered by a white cloth and carrying a green packet. CCTV footage of the incident shows him suddenly flinging chilli powder at the unsuspecting staff, then moving towards them to continue the attack.

Amid the resulting chaos, Borker vaulted over a counter, seized a quantity of cash and ran out of the bank. Some employees attempted to chase him, but he managed to escape, the footage shows.

Police launched an investigation and scanned CCTV footage from the area, tracing and arresting the accused within a few hours of the crime.

During questioning, Borker told investigators that he was in debt after losing Rs 5 lakh in the stock market, which led him to attempt the robbery. Police are now examining whether anyone else was involved in planning the crime.
