BJP's Nainar Nagenthran Slams Vijay Government on Law and Order, Airport Project

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party president Nainar Nagenthran on Sunday criticised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, saying he should learn to speak politely now that he holds the top office. Mr. Nagenthran questioned what the Chief Minister would achieve in office if he could not speak with courtesy, and said the future of the State was uncertain under such leadership.

Speaking to the media in Coimbatore, Mr. Nagenthran said the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu was deteriorating. He also criticised the TVK government's decision to scrap the Parandur airport project, arguing that the State would lose a decade of progress as a result. Had the government completed land acquisition and secured all necessary approvals, he said, the BJP's State unit would have worked to speed up the expansion of the Coimbatore airport.

Turning to political alignments, Mr. Nagenthran recalled that the BJP had allied with the DMK for the 1999 elections, after which the DMK tied up with the Congress. The Congress, he noted, is now with the TVK in the State, and he accused the Chief Minister of making contradictory claims.

On the proposed new Secretariat, Mr. Nagenthran said a new building was needed, but questioned whether it was required at this juncture. He alleged that there was no estimate or drawing plan for the project.
