Plane Banner Campaign Urges Nashville Airport Rename for Dolly Parton

A banner-towing plane over Nashville promoted a petition to rename the city's airport after the late Dolly Parton.

A light aircraft circled over downtown Nashville on Friday, trailing a banner that directed onlookers to an online petition seeking to rename Nashville International Airport in honor of Dolly Parton.

The aerial campaign comes days after the beloved singer, songwriter, and philanthropist passed away in the city on Tuesday at the age of 80. The banner displayed the web address for the petition hosted on change.org, urging supporters to back the proposal.

Video footage captured the plane flying past landmarks including the SongTeller Hotel, which is named after Parton and celebrates her musical legacy. The demonstration of support reflects the deep affection many in Tennessee and beyond hold for the cultural icon, whose career spanned decades and whose charitable work left a lasting impact.

While the renaming effort has gained visibility through the flyover, it remains a grassroots initiative. The petition's organizers hope the gesture will draw attention to their cause and build momentum for an official change to the airport's name.
