NCPCR campaign rescues over 3,800 children from child labour

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has announced the results of its special 'Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation' campaign, which ran from 12 June to 31 August 2026. The statutory body, operating under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, coordinated with state governments, Union Territory administrations, district magistrates, labour departments, and police to intensify efforts against child labour.

The campaign focused on identifying and rescuing children engaged in labour as well as those vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation. Authorities were directed to conduct targeted operations at known hotspots. Regular data submission was also sought from states and UTs on rescue operations, FIRs, rehabilitation, restoration, educational mainstreaming, and compensation.

To ensure smooth implementation, NCPCR held review meetings with district administrations to address operational bottlenecks and improve inter-departmental coordination. Awareness drives were carried out through social media and other platforms to encourage reporting of child labour and highlight the importance of rehabilitation and educational mainstreaming post-rescue.

As a result of sustained monitoring and collaborative action, over 3,800 children were rescued during the campaign period. Additionally, more than 575 FIRs were registered in connection with child labour offences.
