NCPCR campaign rescues over 3,800 children from child labour, registers 575 FIRs

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has announced the rescue of more than 3,800 children from child labour during a special campaign that ran from June 12 to August 31. The statutory body, which operates under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, confirmed the figures in an official statement released on Friday.

As part of the drive, over 575 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered in connection with the rescued cases. The campaign was executed in collaboration with state governments, union territory administrations, district magistrates, labour departments, and police authorities.

The NCPCR directed authorities to intensify targeted rescue operations at identified hotspots for child labour and trafficking. It also sought regular updates from states and UTs on rescue numbers, FIRs, rehabilitation efforts, restoration, educational mainstreaming, and compensation disbursed.

To address field-level challenges, the Commission held review meetings with district administrations. These discussions focused on clearing operational bottlenecks, ensuring timely submission of action-taken reports, and improving inter-departmental coordination.

Awareness drives were conducted through social media and other platforms to inform the public about reporting mechanisms and the importance of rehabilitating and mainstreaming rescued children into education. The Commission credited sustained monitoring and proactive collaboration with state authorities for the successful outcome of the campaign.
