NCTE to Review TET Syllabus, Exam Pattern and Qualifying Marks

The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has proposed setting up a sub-committee to review the syllabus, qualifying marks and examination pattern of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), according to leaders of the Andhra Pradesh United Teachers Federation (AP UTF).

A delegation comprising AP UTF State president N. Venkateswarlu and general secretary K.S.S. Prasad, along with School Teachers' Federation (STFI) representatives C.N. Bharathi and Chava Ravi, met NCTE chairman Pankaj Arora, member secretary Sukhjeet Kaur, deputy secretary Satish Kumar and other officials in New Delhi on Wednesday. The leaders submitted memoranda outlining issues related to the TET.

The delegation placed before Deputy Secretary (Academic) Satish Kumar the difficulties teachers face under the current TET system. They noted that in-service teachers across the country were anxious following a Supreme Court verdict that requires them to qualify in the TET by August 31, 2028.

The STFI representatives asked the NCTE to determine the TET syllabus on a scientific basis, hold subject-wise examinations and lower the qualifying marks. They also sought changes to the examination pattern so that it better suits the needs of in-service teachers. According to the federation leaders, the NCTE officials assured them that the Council would take appropriate decisions to address their concerns.

The delegation later visited the Election Commission of India office at Nirvachan Sadan and submitted a memorandum seeking measures to ensure that only eligible candidates are enrolled as voters for the upcoming Teachers' and Graduates' MLC elections. They also asked that teachers working in primary and upper-primary schools be granted voting rights in the Teachers' MLC elections.
