Nepal Floods: Food Aid Push Intensifies as Remote Villages Remain Cut Off

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is scaling up its emergency response in Nepal, where catastrophic flash floods have left thousands of people isolated and in urgent need of food assistance. The agency has deployed specialist logistics teams to reach even the most remote localities cut off by the disaster.

Government estimates indicate that more than 84,000 people have been affected by the floods, which struck the northern part of the country on August 26. The Nepalese National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has assessed that 43,000 people require immediate relief.

The scale of the logistical challenge is immense. According to the WFP, over 40 bridges have been damaged or destroyed, and the continued risk of flooding is severely restricting access to affected areas. In response, the agency is using schools as distribution sites, where local residents and WFP operators are coordinating the delivery of essential aid items.

Aerial footage from the Kipsang Rural Municipality shows the extent of the devastation, with large areas destroyed by the floodwaters. The WFP has stated that the need for food aid is growing as communities remain isolated, underscoring the critical window for humanitarian assistance in the region.
