The death toll from a devastating flash flood that swept through the Himalayan border region between Nepal and China's Tibet Autonomous Region on Wednesday has climbed to 157, police confirmed on Monday.

Authorities said the figure represents a grim rise in casualties since the initial reports of the disaster. Rescue and relief operations are believed to be ongoing in the affected areas, which span a rugged, high-altitude terrain that complicates access.
