Nepal-Tibet Flash Floods: Death Toll Crosses 690, Thousands Missing
Flash floods along the Nepal-China border have killed over 690 people, with thousands still missing and rescue efforts ongoing.
Rescue teams in Nepal continued their search for survivors on Sunday after catastrophic flash floods devastated areas along the Nepal-China border. The combined death toll in Nepal and Tibet has risen to 691, with more than 3,000 people still unaccounted for, according to the latest updates from authorities.
Chinese officials reported 16 deaths and 546 missing in Tibet. Nepal's disaster management agency said late Saturday that the death toll in the country had climbed to 675, with 2,498 people listed as missing. More than 3,700 people have been rescued in Nepal so far.
In Nuwakot, one of the hardest-hit Nepali districts, aerial footage showed the swollen Trishuli River after a fresh water surge warning was issued in the morning. Drone images captured damaged buildings across the district, highlighting the scale of destruction.
At relief centers, families of the missing waited anxiously for any news of their loved ones. Helicopters arrived in Nuwakot carrying aid supplies, including clothes, instant noodles, crackers, and rice, while others returned from flood-hit areas with survivors.
Authorities have not yet provided a timeline for when the search operations might conclude, as the number of missing continues to weigh heavily on the region.
