Taapsee Pannu's Gandhari Trailer Promises a Mother's Relentless Hunt
Netflix unveils Gandhari trailer: Taapsee Pannu stars as a mother on a mission to find her abducted daughter in a mysterious town.
Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming action-thriller Gandhari, starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead role. The film, written and produced by Kanika Dhillon and directed by Devashish Makhija, is set in the fictional town of Joypurra — a place defined by fear, silence, and the enigmatic Behrupiyas, who are central to the town's cultural identity.
Pannu plays Bani, a mother whose world shatters when her daughter is abducted. As the investigation into the disappearance raises unsettling questions, Bani decides to take matters into her own hands. The trailer teases a journey through hidden truths, mounting danger, and unexpected alliances as she fights to bring her child home.
The film blends action and suspense with themes of courage, sacrifice, and determination. Ishwak Singh portrays Gokul, a father grappling with his daughter's disappearance, while Jatin Sarna plays Kabir, the officer leading the investigation. The ensemble cast also includes Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht, and Chhaya Kadam.
Speaking about her role, Pannu said she was drawn to Bani's refusal to give up despite overwhelming odds. She noted the role demanded significant physical preparation, but it was the character's resilience and conviction that truly resonated with her. She also expressed excitement about reuniting with Dhillon and Netflix, describing their creative partnership as rooted in trust and a shared passion for stories about complex women.
Director Devashish Makhija said he was drawn to the film's cinematic potential to build a mysterious, layered world not seen before on screen. He described the story as a universal tale of human choices, consequences, and the extraordinary lengths one goes to for a loved one.
Gandhari premieres on Netflix on September 3.
