Netflix Unveils Trailer for Matthew Perry Docuseries Ahead of October 27 Debut

Netflix has released the trailer for The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part docuseries that examines the life and legacy of the late Friends actor. The full series will arrive on the platform on October 27.

Directed by Mary Robertson, whose previous credits include Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, the project is described by Maxine Productions as the first in-depth and definitive documentary about the actor, built around accounts from people who knew him closely.

Among those featured is Perry's sister, Mia Perry Bowick. In a statement released with the announcement, she said it had taken her time to feel ready to speak about her memories and about what it was like to love her brother through the many complexities of his life — to see him as a whole person rather than only as Chandler or as someone who battled addiction.

Bowick described Perry as someone with a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, adding that even in his darkest moments he could still make people laugh and feel loved. She expressed hope that the series would give those who cared about him, whether personally or from a distance, a deeper understanding of who he was and the legacy he leaves behind.

The documentary sets out to portray Perry beyond his best-known role as Chandler Bing while also addressing his struggles with drug and alcohol addiction. Its logline presents him as generous, funny, vulnerable and larger than life, and centres on what it calls the honesty that became his greatest legacy.

Perry died in 2023 at the age of 54, after taking too much ketamine and drowning in his hot tub.

Robertson executive produces the series alongside Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman. Lora Moftah is co-executive producer, with Jessica Call as producer.
