Netflix reveals first look of Unaccustomed Earth, starring Freida Pinto and Siddharth

Netflix has offered a first glimpse of its forthcoming family drama series Unaccustomed Earth, which places Freida Pinto and Siddharth in the lead roles. The show is drawn from Jhumpa Lahiri's short story collection of the same name and is scheduled to arrive on the streaming platform on December 17, 2026.

Pinto appears as Parul Chaudhury, a wife and mother whose circumstances shift after a cancer diagnosis. The character, the series suggests, has already surrendered much — including a college romance she set aside to honour her father's wishes. Her diagnosis leads the family to relocate from India to Cambridge, Massachusetts, a place where she once felt deeply at home. The move sets her thinking about the paths she abandoned and the choices still open to her, with consequences that ripple outward to her family and the immigrant community around them.

Siddharth features as Amit. The ensemble also includes Indraneil Sengupta as Jai, Parveen Kaur as Nina, Sarayu Blue as Ruma, Justin Bartha as Adam, Adi Roy as Kaushik, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig as Hema and Jayant Kripalani as Pranab. Further cast members are Ishita Bansal as Divya, Meera Simham as Swati, Ravi Kapoor as Vishal, Swayam Bhatia as Sudha and Palomi Ghosh as Anjali.

Madhuri Shekar has adapted the material and serves as showrunner and writer. Executive producers include John Wells, Jhumpa Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow and Celia Costas. Ritesh Batra will direct and executive produce the opening two episodes.

Set in Cambridge and Boston, the series moves across generations of an Indian American community, exploring relationships, family expectations, loss and the search for belonging. Lahiri's collection, on which it is based, similarly examines identity, culture, family and home for Indian American families. Warner Bros. Television produces the show, which will stream exclusively on Netflix.
