Newborn Dies After Ambulance Stranded for Two Hours on Broken UP Road

A newborn girl has died after the ambulance carrying her mother remained stuck for nearly two hours on a damaged road in Uttar Pradesh's Agra district, according to a complaint filed by the family.

The incident occurred on September 2 in Gadhwar village under the Bah area. Pradeep Singh's wife went into labour, prompting the family to call a government ambulance. En route to the hospital, the vehicle became trapped on a badly damaged stretch of road.

Villagers reportedly had to tie the ambulance to a tractor to pull it free. By the time the woman reached the medical facility, the newborn had stopped breathing, the complaint stated.

A distraught Pradeep Kumar has written to authorities demanding action against those responsible for maintaining the road. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vinod Kumar confirmed that the complaint was received during Tehsil Diwas on September 5 and has been forwarded to the Public Works Department for a report.

"Further action will be taken after the report is received," Kumar said.

The incident has drawn political reaction. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, sharing a news clip on X, blamed corruption for the tragedy, saying, "What could be more unfortunate than this — due to the BJP's corruption, even those who have not yet been born are being killed."
