Newborn rescued from thorny bushes near Ongole canal, admitted to RIMS
A one-day-old boy abandoned in thorny bushes near Sagar Canal in Ongole was rescued after passersby heard his cries and alerted authorities. He is now receiving treatment at RIMS Hospital.
A one-day-old male infant was rescued from thorny bushes near Sagar Canal in Samatha Nagar, on the outskirts of Ongole, on Thursday. The child is suspected to have been abandoned shortly after birth and to have remained there through the night.
Passersby heard the baby crying and alerted the 112 helpline as well as Help, a local voluntary organisation. Ongole Taluka Circle Inspector T. Vijay Krishna dispatched a police team to the spot.
The matter was brought to the notice of Prakasam District Child Protection Officer P. Dinesh Kumar and District Women and Child Welfare Officer A. Padma Sunanda. Acting on their instructions, the infant was shifted to RIMS Hospital, Ongole, with police assistance.
The baby has been taken into protective custody and is currently undergoing treatment. Help Project Director B.V. Sagar said the boy's condition is critical. He is exhausted from crying through the night and has bleeding wounds on his body from thrashing in the thorny thicket, Sagar said, adding that the infant is receiving advanced medical care.
