NHAI Adds 'OneTag' FASTag Portability to Rajmargyatra App
NHAI has introduced 'OneTag' FASTag portability on its Rajmargyatra app, letting users switch issuer banks without replacing their existing tag.
The National Highways Authority of India has rolled out a FASTag portability service, branded 'OneTag', on its Rajmargyatra mobile application. The facility allows highway users to move their FASTag account from one issuer bank to another while continuing to use the same physical tag already fitted on their vehicle, doing away with the need to buy and install a fresh tag.
The addition widens the set of citizen-facing services hosted on the Rajmargyatra app, which already offers the FASTag Annual Pass, the FASTag Local Pass and the Emergency Helpline 1033, among others.
According to the process outlined for users, a FASTag holder logs into the app and enters the vehicle registration number to check whether the tag is eligible for porting. A six-digit Mobile Verification Code is then sent by the current issuer bank for verification. Once the user authorises the request, a new issuer is selected, followed by customer verification and wallet onboarding with that issuer to finish the switch.
After a successful port, the FASTag ID linked to the vehicle registration number stays the same, so the user keeps the existing tag even though the issuer bank has changed. The previous issuer closes the old FASTag wallet and refunds any remaining balance after applicable adjustments. An interoperable FASTag carries a cooling period of six months before it can be ported again.
NHAI expects the initiative to improve FASTag lifecycle management by cutting down repeated tag production, which in turn reduces operational, dispatch and reissuance costs. It is also intended to simplify the issuer-switching journey, give users more choice and support a more interoperable and efficient FASTag ecosystem.
FASTag, which has a penetration rate of more than 98 percent and roughly 13 crore users, has transformed electronic toll collection in the country. The 'OneTag' service is expected to further strengthen the digital tolling architecture and give users greater flexibility by letting them retain their existing physical tag.
