NHRC seeks report on alleged assault of minor by bus staff in Greater Noida

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has intervened in the reported sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl by a bus driver and conductor in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Acting on a media report, the Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter, observing that the allegations, if true, constitute a serious violation of the girl's human rights.
According to the sequence of events reported, the girl had left her home in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, on August 4, 2026, to visit her cousin in Sector 63, Noida. She missed her intended stop and alighted at Pari Chowk, from where she boarded another bus after confirming it was headed to Sector 63. It is alleged that the driver and conductor of this bus then sexually assaulted her, threatened her with dire consequences, and later dropped her off at the Kashmere Gate Bus Terminal in Delhi.
The NHRC has issued formal notices to the Police Commissioners of Delhi and Gautam Budh Nagar, as well as the Superintendent of Police in Mainpuri. The authorities have been given a two-week deadline to submit a detailed report on the incident. The Commission has specifically asked for the current status of the investigation and details of any compensation that may have been provided to the victim.
