NHRC seeks Telangana DGP's report on failure to register FIR against Harish Rao
NHRC asks Telangana DGP for an action-taken report within four weeks on a complaint about no FIR being registered over occult allegations against T. Harish Rao.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has stepped in after a complaint alleged that police failed to register an FIR over public accusations of 'black magic' and 'occult rituals' against Siddipet MLA and former minister T. Harish Rao. The Commission has directed the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) to submit an Action Taken Report (ATR) within four weeks.
The complaint, filed by Karupothula Revanth, points out that despite repeated public allegations that Mr. Harish Rao performed tantric or occult rituals at temples to stop rains and cause drought, no evidence such as temple records, priest statements, or receipts has been made public.
According to the complaint, submissions were made at the Osmania University and Vanasthalipuram police stations on August 4, 2026, followed by a representation to the DGP's office on August 17, 2026. However, no FIR was registered, and no reasons were communicated for the inaction.
The NHRC's intervention seeks to address the alleged failure of the police to act on the complaint, which the complainant claims amounts to a denial of justice.
