NIA court hands seven-year sentence to accused in Bengaluru Al-Hind ISIS case
Bengaluru NIA court sentences Syed Fasiur Rehaman to seven years rigorous imprisonment and ₹48,000 fine in Al-Hind ISIS conspiracy case.
A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Bengaluru has sentenced an accused in the Al-Hind ISIS terror conspiracy case to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹48,000 on Syed Fasiur Rehaman.
The case stems from an alleged conspiracy linked to the proscribed ISIS terrorist organisation. Investigators have said that members of the Al-Hind module planned targeted killings to trigger communal riots and further the outfit's agenda.
The case was initially registered by Karnataka Police in Bengaluru on January 10, 2020. The NIA took over the investigation and re-registered the case on January 23 that year.
The agency has filed three chargesheets against 20 accused in the case so far. Earlier this year, accused Haneef Khan was convicted on July 14 after pleading guilty during the trial, which commenced in October 2025.
The NIA investigation identified Mehaboob Pasha as the prime accused, alleging he masterminded the conspiracy. Several meetings were held at his residence in Gurappanapalya, Bengaluru, where the accused allegedly discussed plans for targeted killings with the intention of provoking communal violence.
Rehaman is alleged to have participated in these conspiracy meetings and purchased tents and knives from a Decathlon showroom for jungle-camp training of Al-Hind group members. The alleged objective of the conspiracy was to establish an ISIS/Daesh Wilayah or province in India.
The NIA said its investigation is continuing, with efforts underway to trace an online handler who allegedly planned and conspired to establish the module involved in the terror conspiracy.
