NIA raids 10 Kashmir locations in cross-border terror conspiracy probe

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at ten locations across Kashmir on Saturday as part of an ongoing investigation into a cross-border terror conspiracy. The operation, which began early morning, covered sites in Srinagar, Kupwara, Anantnag, Pulwama, and Budgam.

The searches are aimed at gathering documentary, digital, and material evidence related to the case, and at establishing the roles of individuals allegedly linked to a local support network. The agency is probing a conspiracy involving Pakistan-based handlers and local Over Ground Workers (OGWs) suspected of providing logistical and other assistance to infiltrated terrorists.

The case was initially registered at Police Station Zakoora in Srinagar and was later re-registered by the NIA under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.

The investigation was triggered by the arrest of an OGW allegedly associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in late March. A hand grenade and live ammunition were recovered from the suspect. Subsequent arrests of Pakistani terrorists allegedly connected to the conspiracy helped investigators identify members of the local support network.

Investigations so far have indicated alleged links between Pakistan-based handlers and local associates, who are suspected of being used for communication, logistics, movement and concealment of terrorists, provision of shelter, and reconnaissance. The agency is also examining financial trails, communication channels, movement of the accused, and the source of arms and explosives to map the complete network.
