Nicolas Cage's Malibu Mansion Driveway Collapses, Causing Gas Leak
The driveway of Nicolas Cage's Malibu home collapsed, causing a gas leak and leading to precautionary service shutoffs in the area.
A portion of the driveway at a Malibu mansion owned by actor Nicolas Cage collapsed on Tuesday morning, creating a large opening in front of the property and triggering a gas leak.
The incident was reported just before 6 a.m., drawing emergency responders and utility crews to the scene. SoCalGas confirmed that the leak was brought under control within a few hours. As a precautionary measure against potential coastal erosion, the utility temporarily shut off natural gas service to an 85-foot stretch of the street.
The property is located in a private enclave sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway. City officials stated that entry to five homes on the affected street was prohibited on Tuesday.
Records indicate the property was sold in 2024, with the previous owner identifying Cage as the buyer at the time. Representatives for the actor have not yet commented on the incident.
The collapse comes in the wake of a coastal flooding advisory for the Los Angeles area, which was issued due to the lingering effects of a former hurricane that had weakened to a tropical storm. Though the system did not make landfall, it brought rain and generated hazardous surf along the Southern California coast over the holiday weekend.
Cage, 62, recently starred in the Amazon series "Spider-Noir" and is slated to portray NFL coach John Madden in an upcoming biographical film. He has appeared in over 100 films and won an Academy Award for his role in "Leaving Las Vegas."
