NIELIT Integrates Saylor University Courses Into Digital University Platform
NIELIT has partnered with Saylor University, USA, to bring free self-paced online courses onto its Digital University platform, alongside MoUs with eight partner organisations.
The National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), an autonomous scientific society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has integrated digital learning resources from Saylor University, USA, into its NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform. The collaboration was formally inaugurated at MeitY in New Delhi by Secretary S. Krishnan, who attended the event as Chief Guest.
The integration gives learners on the NDU platform access to Saylor University's free, self-paced online courses, spanning areas such as artificial intelligence, programming, data science, cybersecurity and business management. Saylor University offers more than 160 such courses. The arrangement is intended to widen the choice and flexibility available to learners by placing national and international learning opportunities within a single ecosystem.
Speaking at the launch, Krishnan described the partnership as a step towards expanding access to quality digital learning and strengthening skilling, upskilling and lifelong learning. He underlined the role of global collaborations in preparing learners for a technology-driven economy and stressed the importance of continuous learning and reskilling to keep India's talent pool competitive.
Dr. M. M. Tripathi, Director General of NIELIT, said partnerships of this kind would enrich the digital learning ecosystem, support continuous upskilling and reskilling, and help build a future-ready workforce. Dr. David Shulman, Provost and Senior Vice President of Saylor University, noted that combining NIELIT's nationwide reach with Saylor's open-learning resources could extend opportunities to students, working professionals and learners in Tier-2, Tier-3 and underserved regions.
In her keynote address, Dr. Sheila Jagannathan, Vice President of Saylor University, said rapid advances in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies demand a workforce committed to continuous learning. She highlighted the NDU platform's capacity to offer flexible, self-paced learning pathways and credentials, and said the collaboration aims to democratise access to education and improve employability.
Dr. Alok Tripathi, Director (Scheme/Skilling) and Chief Controller of Examinations at NIELIT, delivered the closing remarks, describing the partnerships as a boost to NIELIT's work in digital skilling, emerging technologies and industry-oriented learning.
On the sidelines of the event, NIELIT exchanged Memoranda of Understanding with eight organisations from industry, academia and industry associations. The partners are the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), the Electronics Sector Skills Council of India (ESSCI), Pearson India Education Services Pvt. Ltd., STEM Learning and Outreach for Research and Education (STEMLORE), Dassault Systèmes, ABES Engineering College, and Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University (KBCNMU), Jalgaon. The agreements are aimed at expanding industry-aligned skilling, certification, faculty development, internships and digital learning opportunities, largely through the NDU platform.
NIELIT operates through 56 centres, more than 700 accredited institutes and over 8,000 facilitation centres, and has been conferred "Deemed to be University" status under the UGC (Institution Deemed to be Universities) Regulations, 2023.
