Nigeria's Q2 GDP Grows 4.43% on Strong Oil and Non-Oil Output
Nigeria's economy expanded 4.43% year-on-year in Q2 2026, up from 3.89% in Q1, driven by gains in both oil and non-oil sectors.
Nigeria's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 4.43% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, according to official data released on Monday. This marks an acceleration from the 3.89% growth recorded in the preceding three-month period.
The National Bureau of Statistics attributed the faster pace to improved performance in both the oil and non-oil segments of the economy. The oil sector received a significant boost from higher production, with average daily output rising to 1.72 million barrels per day in Q2, compared with 1.55 million barrels per day in the first quarter.
The latest figures continue a trend of steady momentum for Africa's most populous nation. The economy grew by 3.87% in real terms for the full year 2025, up from 3.38% in 2024.
Despite the positive trajectory, growth remains well short of the 7% annual rate targeted by President Bola Tinubu for 2027. The president is expected to seek a second and final four-year term in elections due in early 2027, a vote widely seen as a referendum on his administration's handling of the economy and security.
