Kerala CM announces NIT-Calicut as partner in 'Puthuyuga Keralam' initiative
CM Satheesan says NIT-Calicut will partner in Kerala's knowledge-based 'Puthuyuga Keralam' project, stressing curriculum updates to meet global job market changes.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has announced that the National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT-C) will be a partner in the State government's 'Puthuyuga Keralam' (New Age Keralam) project, which aims to build a knowledge-based and technologically self-reliant Kerala.
Speaking at the NIT-C campus in Chathamangalam on Tuesday (August 1, 2026), the Chief Minister delivered a lecture in memory of M.V. Kesava Rao, the institute's first director, and also marked its 66th Foundation Day.
Mr. Satheesan said NIT-C's technical expertise and research support would be crucial in restructuring the State's higher education sector and framing new policies aligned with global employment market trends. He emphasised converting higher education into a tool for social and economic development, as envisioned by India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
Highlighting rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, and robotics, the Chief Minister noted that machine intelligence is predicted to surpass human intelligence. He pointed out a major challenge: students' knowledge often becomes outdated soon after completing their courses. To address this, he urged higher education institutions to regularly revise curricula based on employment market changes.
NIT-C Director Prasad Krishna, MP M.K. Raghavan, and MLA M.A. Razaq were present on the occasion.
