NLSIU Bengaluru Opens Applications for 2027 Research Fellowships
NLSIU Bengaluru is accepting applications until October 30, 2026, for three research fellowship programmes beginning January 2027, with stipends ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh per month.
The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has opened applications for its research fellowship programmes for the January 2027 intake, inviting scholars at various career stages to conduct research in law, social sciences, public policy and allied areas.
Three fellowship tracks are on offer: the Graduate Research Fellowship, the NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship and the University Research Fellowship. Candidates have until 5 pm on October 30, 2026, to apply through the Google Form linked to each programme on the university's official website.
Seats and eligibility
The Graduate Research Fellowship has 10 seats, while the Postdoctoral and University Research Fellowships each have five. Applicants for the graduate track must hold a degree in law or a postgraduate degree in social sciences, public policy or a related discipline.
The postdoctoral fellowship requires a PhD in law, social sciences, public policy or an allied field completed within the past three years. Candidates who have already held a postdoctoral position at another university are not eligible.
The University Research Fellowship is aimed at senior scholars with a recognised PhD, a minimum of 10 years of teaching or comparable professional experience, and a substantial publication record.
Stipend structure
Starting monthly remuneration is Rs 50,000 for the Graduate Research Fellowship, Rs 1,20,000 for the Postdoctoral Fellowship and Rs 2,00,000 for the University Research Fellowship. The final figure will be decided on the basis of a candidate's qualifications, academic background, experience and overall suitability.
Fellows are generally expected to be based on the Bengaluru campus for the duration of the programme, though the university may consider flexibility on a case-by-case basis.
