Noah Wyle Wins Second Straight Emmy for 'The Pitt'

Noah Wyle has won the Emmy for best actor in a drama series for a second year running, taking the statuette for his role in 'The Pitt' at the 78th Emmy Awards.

Wyle plays Dr Michael "Robby" Robinavitch in the HBO Max medical drama. His win on Tuesday followed a first victory for the same part last year.

The actor was nominated alongside Mark Ruffalo ('Task'), Gary Oldman ('Slow Horses'), Sterling K. Brown ('Paradise') and Rufus Sewell ('The Diplomat').

Accepting the award, Wyle said the recognition was overwhelming and praised the work of his fellow nominees, describing them as inspirational. He singled out Oldman, saying he did not know an actor of his own age who had not regarded Oldman as the standard to aim for.

Wyle thanked his colleagues at HBO and Warner Television and the crew who work on the show's Stage 22, noting they would be back at work early the next morning. He also reflected on his roots, saying he grew up in Los Angeles as a Hollywood kid, was raised on television and had always wanted to be part of the industry.

The win places Wyle among a small group of actors who have taken the lead drama prize for a show's first two seasons, a list that includes E.G. Marshall, Bill Cosby, Daniel J. Travanti and Bryan Cranston. He is the first to do so since Cranston in 2009.

Last year Wyle collected two Emmys, one for acting and one as an executive producer when 'The Pitt' won best drama series. He was previously nominated each year from 1995 to 1999 for his supporting role as Dr John Carter on the NBC medical drama 'ER'.

Since its 2025 premiere, 'The Pitt' has drawn 38 Emmy nominations across two seasons, winning nine for its first. A third season is scheduled to arrive on HBO Max in January 2027.
