Swollen Streams Disrupt Traffic Across North Andhra Districts
Seasonal streams in spate and fallen trees disrupted traffic in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram, prompting official inspections and deployment of disaster response teams.
Heavy inflows into seasonal streams have disrupted vehicular movement on several routes across Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts, leaving motorists stranded for hours at multiple locations.
On the Vizianagaram-Gurla-Cheepurupalli route, traffic came to a halt after the Chittigedda stream swelled and damaged a stretch of the road. Commuters were forced to wait until the water receded before they could cross the affected section.
Vizianagaram Joint Collector S. Sedhu Madhavan inspected the spot and instructed officials from the irrigation and Roads and Buildings departments to clear the waterlogging and dig a temporary channel to allow water to flow freely.
Separately, movement between Srikakulam and Kalingapatnam was suspended after a number of old trees fell across the road. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force were deployed to the site and cleared the fallen trees.
Srikakulam Superintendent of Police K.V. Maheswar Reddy inspected the route and directed traffic department officials to take the necessary steps to ensure vehicles could move without hindrance.
