Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Urges India to 'Move Faster' on AI

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has called on India to accelerate its artificial intelligence efforts, saying the country is well-positioned to build a robust local AI economy. Speaking at an event, Huang expressed enthusiasm about Indian companies and startups leveraging AI technologies.

Huang noted that India already possesses one of the world's leading IT industries, but AI marks the beginning of a new technology platform that could unlock fresh opportunities. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's early advocacy for AI, saying, "I had the benefit of seeing Modiji a decade ago talking about AI."

"I'm really anxious to see and very excited to see the local companies and the local startups starting in India, starting to take advantage of the technology, contributing to the technology and then building the local AI economy," Huang said. His core message to India was succinct: "Move faster."

The comments come as India intensifies efforts to develop its AI and semiconductor capabilities. The country is working to create a comprehensive technology ecosystem that spans chip manufacturing, chip design, research and development, computing infrastructure, applications, and skilled talent.

Beyond manufacturing, India aims to strengthen its expertise in chip design and research, fostering an environment where technology is developed across multiple stages—from foundational hardware to AI applications and startups.

Nvidia, a dominant player in the global AI chip market, has been increasing its engagement with India. Huang's remarks highlight the opportunity for India to leverage its existing IT talent and startup ecosystem to move beyond mere AI usage and contribute to the technology's evolution.

The urgency stems from the rapid pace of AI development worldwide. For India, the challenge lies in speed—adopting AI quickly while also playing a role in shaping its future.
