Oasis Reunion Documentary Premieres at Venice Film Festival
Oasis documentary 'Don't Look Back in Anger' premieres in Venice, chronicling the brothers' reunion and their enduring music.
The Venice Film Festival saw a dose of rock 'n' roll chaos on Saturday as Oasis brought their reunion tour documentary to the Lido. Noel and Liam Gallagher made a brief appearance for photographers before skipping the traditional news conference, leaving the spotlight on the film itself.
Titled "Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger," the documentary blends concert footage with an intimate look at the fraught relationship between the Gallagher brothers. Their volatile dynamic led to the band's dramatic split in 2009 after a backstage altercation before a Paris show. The film captures their journey from that rupture to their 2025 reunion, which began with a massive concert in Cardiff, Wales, attended by over 60,000 fans.
The documentary includes never-before-seen rehearsal footage, where tensions are palpable as Liam enters the room, and features their first joint interview in 25 years. Directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace interviewed the brothers separately before rehearsals and together during the tour to chart the evolution of their relationship. They aimed to make their presence invisible during rehearsals and to immerse audiences in the concert experience.
Writer Steven Knight said the film explores why Oasis's music continues to resonate across generations, driving the intense demand for reunion tickets. The documentary also highlights fans from around the world, adding a human element to the band's story.
"Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger" will hit theaters soon, with an IMAX release scheduled for September 11 and a subsequent debut on Disney+.
