Russian Strike on Odesa Injures Seven, Including Two Children
Seven people, including two children, were injured in a Russian strike on Ukraine's Odesa region overnight, emergency services said.
A Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine's Odesa region overnight injured seven people, among them two children, according to the State Emergency Service.
Maryna Averina, a spokesperson for the Odesa Regional State Emergency Service, said the region came under a large-scale assault with multiple strikes reported. Apartments on the 12th to 16th floors of a 19-storey residential building were damaged and a fire broke out, which firefighters quickly brought under control. Rescue teams combed the apartments and confirmed that no injured people remained trapped inside. Three people, including a child, were hurt in that building.
At a second location, a house was destroyed and neighbouring homes were damaged. Three more people, including a child, were injured there, Averina said.
Ukraine's Air Force said it destroyed or suppressed 131 Russian aerial targets during the overnight attack, which involved ballistic and cruise missiles along with 157 drones and decoys. The Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa regions were the main areas targeted. Strikes were recorded at 36 locations, while debris from intercepted targets fell at five sites.
More than 150 rescuers and 28 pieces of equipment were deployed to deal with the aftermath, the State Emergency Service said. The wire feed did not specify the total number of casualties across all affected regions.
