Odisha IPS Officer Shefeen Ahamed Dies at 50 After Cancer Battle
IPS officer Shefeen Ahamed K. dies at 50 in Thiruvananthapuram while undergoing cancer treatment.
Shefeen Ahamed K., a 50-year-old Odisha cadre IPS officer, passed away on Monday at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was undergoing treatment for cancer at the time of his death.
A member of the 2003 IPS batch, Ahamed was serving as Inspector General of Police for the CID Crime Branch and Cybercrime in Odisha. He had earlier served with the Kerala Police on deputation, holding positions including District Police Chief of Thiruvananthapuram and Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Armed Police Battalion.
A native of Oachira in Kollam district, Ahamed completed his graduation in Civil Engineering from TKM College of Engineering, Kollam, and earned a Master's degree in Police Leadership and Management from Osmania University.
His mortal remains were kept at his residence in Vattiyurkavu before being taken to his native place on Tuesday for final rites.
Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan condoled the officer's death, praising his excellent service record and professional commitment during his tenure in Kerala. Leader of Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan also expressed condolences, recalling Ahamed's commendable service in the state.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, who shared a close personal association with the late officer, noted that Ahamed had headed the Thiruvananthapuram Rural Police during his first tenure as Home Minister. Chennithala also remembered Ahamed's father, K.O. Habeeb, a senior leader of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).
