Old City Metro: Only 55 properties left to acquire, says HMRL

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited Additional Managing Director B. Ajith Reddy on Saturday directed officials from multiple government departments to speed up pending work on the Old City Metro Rail project.

During a field inspection of the 7.5-km corridor from Darulshifa to Chandrayangutta, Mr. Reddy reviewed road-widening and land-acquisition progress. Officials reported that 833 of the 888 affected properties along the route have already been acquired.

The remaining 55 properties include several heritage and old structures, which require careful handling. Mr. Reddy discussed ways to expedite their acquisition while addressing the complexities involved.

He also instructed officials to fast-track the relocation of utilities such as electricity poles, power lines, and water pipelines so they do not obstruct construction. Stressing the need for better inter-departmental coordination, he called for immediate removal of debris from demolished properties and asked all agencies to ensure the required right of way for construction activities.

Mr. Reddy reminded officials of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s directive to fast-track the project and improve public transport connectivity for South Hyderabad’s densely populated areas. He expressed satisfaction that local residents are cooperating with the project’s execution.

Senior officials from HMRL, GHMC, Metro Water Works, and other agencies participated in the inspection.
