Operation Toofan: 100 days on, drug cases up, crimes against women and children down
Operation Toofan's first 100 days show drug cases up to 10,301 and seizures up 19%, while crimes against women and children fell 1.9%.
The State government's anti-drug enforcement drive, Operation Toofan, has completed 100 days, with official figures showing a sharp increase in narcotics-related cases alongside a measurable decline in serious crimes against women and children.
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said drug-related cases rose from 9,208 to 10,301, while arrests climbed from 9,947 to 11,146, comparing the period from June 2, 2026 onwards with the corresponding stretch in 2025. Separately, 5,718 cases were registered under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).
Seizures during the drive included 23,571.253 g of MDMA, 1,228.527 kg of ganja, and 4,740.839 g of hashish oil. The total quantity of narcotics confiscated stood at roughly 1,259 kg, up from 1,058.66 kg in the same period last year — an increase of nearly 19%.
Crimes against women and children fell from 13,631 to 13,371, a decline of 1.9%. Rape cases dropped 19.9% to 593, and serious POCSO cases fell 13.6% to 514. Kidnapping cases decreased from 374 to 315, dowry deaths from four to one, and human trafficking cases from 11 to four.
Homicide figures also improved, with murder cases down from 79 to 70 and culpable homicide from 29 to 22.
