Ossoff Hits Trump on Iran Policy, Inflation in Labor Day Pitch
Sen. Jon Ossoff blamed President Trump's Middle East policy for rising prices and criticized healthcare costs during a Labor Day speech in Georgia.
Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia used his Labor Day address to attack President Donald Trump's economic and foreign policy record, arguing that working families are bearing the cost of administration decisions.
Speaking in Hapeville, Georgia, Ossoff accused the president of "warmongering in the Middle East," which he said has driven up prices for consumers. He claimed the administration "squanders lives and resources" while the president enriches himself and his family at the expense of ordinary Americans.
The senator also focused on healthcare, asserting that 300,000 Georgians have lost their health insurance and that premiums have doubled for over a million residents. He linked these changes to tax cuts that he said primarily benefit the wealthy and large corporations.
Ossoff described the daily struggles of working families, including difficulty paying bills and dealing with financial institutions. He highlighted the emotional toll of a cancer diagnosis, saying patients are forced to fight insurance companies for care instead of focusing on recovery.
In his remarks, Ossoff framed the upcoming election as a deeper fight beyond one political figure. He called on voters to send a message about Georgia's values, recalling the state's 2020 and 2021 Senate elections that sent a Black pastor and a young Jewish son of an immigrant to Washington.
Ossoff is the only Democratic senator seeking reelection in a state that President Trump won in 2024. He faces Republican Representative Mike Collins in the upcoming contest.
