Bikers hurt as vehicles collide in Owaisi's Bhopal convoy
Four to five bikers were injured after vehicles in Asaduddin Owaisi's convoy collided on Bhopal's VIP Road during his visit to the city.
Several bikers were injured in Bhopal on Tuesday when vehicles travelling in AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi's convoy collided on the city's busy VIP Road.
The convoy was passing through the Madhya Pradesh capital when a few vehicles braked suddenly at a turn. Bikes trailing the cars then collided, leaving four to five riders hurt.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vasant Kaul said a number of convoy vehicles had collided after the convoy stopped at the turn. Police reached the spot promptly and brought the situation under control, he said, adding that the injured bikers were taken to hospital for first aid.
The Hyderabad MP arrived in Bhopal on Tuesday afternoon to take part in political events.
Speaking during the visit, Owaisi said the Uniform Civil Code was contrary to the Constitution and to the fundamental right to freedom of religion. He cited Articles 25, 26, 14 and 29, arguing that freedom of religion cannot be curtailed through such a law.
Owaisi also urged parties that are allied with the BJP at the Centre but differ with it ideologically on the UCC to make their position on uniform civil laws clear.
His comments followed Union home minister Amit Shah's statement a couple of days earlier that the UCC would be implemented in 21 states before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The remark drew a cautious response from NDA allies TDP, JD(U) and LJP (Ram Vilas), which stressed the need for consultations with all stakeholders before taking a stand on the matter.
