Owaisi proposes naming Warangal's Mamnoor Airport after 1857 freedom fighter Moulvi Syed Alauddin

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has proposed that the upcoming Mamnoor Airport in Warangal be named after Moulvi Syed Alauddin, a freedom fighter from the erstwhile Hyderabad State.

In a letter to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief welcomed the government's invitation for suggestions on a suitable name for the airport and put forward the freedom fighter's name for consideration.

Mr. Owaisi noted that the airport was originally built in the 1930s during the reign of the Nizam of Hyderabad, primarily to serve the paper industry and enterprises such as the Azam Jahi Mills in Warangal. It is now being revived and developed to improve air connectivity to the region, he said.

Recalling the freedom fighter's role, Mr. Owaisi said Moulvi Syed Alauddin, along with Turrebaz Khan, led the resistance against the British Residency in Hyderabad in July 1857. He was subsequently captured and imprisoned in the Cellular Jail, the MP said.

Describing his contribution as an important chapter in the history of Hyderabad and the freedom struggle in south India, Mr. Owaisi said naming the airport after him would honour his courage and sacrifice and help keep the legacy of a largely unsung freedom fighter alive for future generations.
