The political landscape in Telangana is witnessing an unusual alignment. Asaduddin Owaisi, chief of the AIMIM, and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, despite being adversaries at the national level, have forged a relationship defined by tactical pragmatism within the state.

This dynamic was on public display recently when both leaders shared a platform. Owaisi made his position clear, stating that his support was for Revanth Reddy personally, rather than for his party, the Congress. This endorsement arrives at a time when the Chief Minister is navigating internal party challenges, including the removal of a minister from his cabinet. Owaisi's statement is being interpreted as a signal to those who perceive the Chief Minister as politically vulnerable.

In a reciprocal gesture, Revanth Reddy offered high praise for Owaisi, equating his patriotism with that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This exchange marks a significant departure from their past rhetoric. During the 2023 Assembly election campaign, their language was far more combative, with Owaisi labeling Revanth Reddy as "RSS-Anna" and the latter calling the Hyderabad MP the "B team of BJP."

The shift in their equation is rooted in political calculation. For the Chief Minister, Owaisi's support could be crucial in consolidating the Muslim vote, which is electorally significant in about 40 Assembly constituencies and constitutes a substantial share of the population in Hyderabad. For Owaisi, this relationship offers a channel for political access and influence under the current Congress government.

With the 2028 Assembly elections on the horizon, Revanth Reddy is working to solidify his standing. This alliance with Owaisi adds a strategic layer to his political stability, underscoring that their relationship is less about shared ideology and more about mutual utility in the state's complex political arena.
