Pakistan, Iran Report Progress in Talks on Regional Conflict

Pakistan and Iran have made "significant progress" in discussions aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran, according to Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The remarks came at the conclusion of a visit to Tehran on Tuesday.

The talks, which involved Pakistan's army chief, General Asim Munir, and Iranian leadership, centered on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and expediting an end to the conflict, a statement from Pakistan's military said.

Both sides also exchanged views on regional stability and the prospects for a negotiated settlement to the dispute, the statement added.

In a post on X, Naqvi said, "The Iranian President candidly shared his government's perspective and we had a very constructive exchange on the issues involved."

Before traveling to Tehran, Munir had spoken with U.S. President Donald Trump, according to earlier reports. Trump has recently warned of economic consequences for any nation providing support to Iran, as part of efforts to isolate the country. In response, Iran has threatened to halt all oil exports from the Gulf.
